We are looking for local residents, community groups and businesses to get involved by hosting a stall, showcasing music or a performance, providing an activity, volunteering on the day or giving a donation. Or simply come along to the event to find out what’s happening locally, support local talent – try out some health taster session, eat delicious international food and  participate in some great activities.

Whalley Range ‘Celebrate’ Community Festival Saturday 22nd June 2013 12 – 6 p.m.

St Margaret’s Social Centre, Brantingham Road, M21 0TT

We will be celebrating our 16th Festival this year on Saturday June 22nd…

You can expect the usual high standard of entertainment and activities – including live music of all genres, dance, performance, art & craft workshops and international food and drink to cater for all tastes and cultures.

There will be plenty of stalls providing information on a range of subjects including sustainability, health and wellbeing and lots of other services relevant to our community.

We will be launching the ‘Age friendly’ Whalley Range initiative in partnership with the Manchester City Council’s Valuing Older People team – featuring a dedicated festival area and marquee with information about training and volunteering opportunities and intergenerational activities.

This will be a great opportunity for residents to put forward their own ideas about how Whalley Range can become a more age friendly community.

Our free and accessible festival is the annual showcase for Whalley Range achievement.

Come along on June 22nd and watch some spectacular displays and performances, listen to live music from local musicians, try out some of our festival delights; free arts and crafts, make a badge, watch some spectacular displays and performances, listen to live music from local musicians, create a collage, eat delicious food, sing and dance – or jump on a bouncy castle.

There’ll be  something for everyone!

There will be a rich variety of stalls from local traders selling beautiful jewellery, clothes, plants, books, toys, cakes, international food stalls and more – and a chance to win some fabulous raffle prizes donated by local shops and businesses.

Visit the Health & Wellbeing marquee for lots of health-related information – and a chance to try out some alternative health techniques and therapies.

Whalley Range Community Forum and Whalley Range Action for Health & Sustainable Living will provide information on current and future plans and ideas for Whalley Range, e.g. eco work with schools, making links with local allotments, growing food, greening Alleys and sharing ideas about trying to live more sustainably.

Our Festival is entirely run by volunteers from the community, members of Whalley Range Community Forum, Whalley Range Youth Opportunities Association, Whalley Range Action for Health and Sustainable Living and other groups from our base at JNR8 Youth & Community Centre.

The festival is made possible by grants and donations from local businesses, Awards for All, Manchester City Council, social housing groups in the area and fundraising by our volunteers through raffles etc..

The Whalley Range Celebrate festival is about bringing the community together to celebrate our diversity and achievements, to provide access to services – and to share information about what’s happening in and around the area.

Come along and get involved: meet new people, join a group, find out about local activities – there’s a lot going on!
